4th of July 2023- Thanks to all who made it a success!!

I hope everyone had a fun filled 4th of July weekend. We had an event packed day on Sunday July the 2nd and it was great to see so many people from the community come together for all our events.

Let’s thank Christina King for putting on another patriotic bike and golf cart parade this year. Everyone was talking about those goodie packages she made this year. So much red white and blue! Way to show your patriotism Fleeton Beach!!

The hot day made for a fast crab derby this year as the crabs were ready to go! Special thanks Noah Dockery and Bill Clarke for catching so many crabs for us that didn’t have a crab. Thanks also to Ralph Dove for helping us get the crabs we needed.  We had a great time watching the kids cheer in their crabs and all the people who came to watch.

This year we had a special treat with the 1st Fleeton Beach Silent auction. With only a month to pull this together Christine Harmic created a spectacular event! We had a record number of people show up for this exciting event. Thank you to all the Fleeton residents who made these terrific baskets and donated items for the event. We appreciate all the volunteers who helped make this event possible. There was something for everyone and the bidding was as hot as the day was. We were able to add over $3100 to the boardwalk and jetty fund and sold 10 tickets for upcoming fish fry. We did raise a lot of money and its just as important we were able to bring the community together for a fun evening.

Many area businesses graciously donated items for the Fleeton Beach silent auction. They supported our cause of repairing the jetty and boardwalk and we should support them. Take some time to visit their stores, buy from them and tell them you appreciate their support for Fleeton beach! We couldn’t have done this without them.

Please support these businesses who support us!

FLEETON BEACH HOMEOWNERS:

WE HOPE ALL OUR FLEETON BEACH NEIGHBORS HAVE ENJOYED THE PLEASURES OF OUR COMMUNITY OVER THE PAST YEARS.

WE ARE SURE YOU HAVE NOTICED THE EXCELLENT CONDITION OF OUR ROADS DURING YOUR ‘INS’ AND ‘OUTS’ OVER THE PAST MONTHS AND YEARS. OUR SINCERE THANKS TO THOSE WHOSE CONSTANT EFFORTS HAVE PRODUCED THE BEST ROAD SURFACES WE HAVE HAD IN A VERY LONG TIME (PERHAPS EVER). ALSO, THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE MAINTAINED THEIR VEHICLE SPEED UNDER THE POSTED LIMITS. THE DUST CAN BE OVERWHELMING AND LOW “SPEED LIMIT” CERTAINLY HELPS.

AT A RECENT FLEETON BEACH ASSOCIATION OPEN BOARD MEETING, IT WAS NOTED THAT OUR SMALL BUDGET IS BEING STRAINED DUE TO THE LACK OF “DUES” OR “ROAD MAINTENANCE” CONTRIBUTIONS. THE CURRENT FINANCIALS LEAVE US IN THE VERY REAL POSITION OF NOT BEING ABLE TO COVER THE ROAD MAINTENANCE COST THAT IS FORECAST OVER THE COMING YEARS.

THUS, WE NEED YOUR HELP, IF YOU WISH TO BE OR REMAIN A MEMBER, “IN GOOD STANDING” (DUES PAID), PLEASE FORWARD THE SMALL YEARLY DUES ($75) FOR ANY PREVIOUS YEARS MISSED AND THIS YEAR, 2017, THAT ARE CURRENTLY DUE BY MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. IF YOU ONLY WISH TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE “ROAD MAINTENANCE FUND” AS A FLEETON BEACH PROPERTY OWNER, PLEASE FORWARD YOUR $75.00 YEARLY CONTRIBUTION EACH SPRING.  AS DISCUSSED AT THE BOARD MEETING, MEMBERS “IN GOOD STANDING” MAY VOTE AND HAVE A SAY IN THE DIRECTION OF OUR ASSOCIATION.

IN ADDITION TO THE ROAD MAINTENANCE, YOUR “DUES” ALSO PAY FOR THE MANY OTHER INITIATIVES YOU MAY NOTICE WHICH HAVE BEEN ACCOMPLISHED THROUGH THE EFFECTS OF THE ASSOCIATION AND/OR ITS ACTIVE MEMBERS. SOME OF THE MORE ENJOYABLE EVENTS, SUCH AS THE TWICE ANNUAL HOLIDAY COMMUNITY PICNICS ARE PUT ON BY OUR MEMBERS WITH THE MAIN COURSE BEING FUNDED THROUGH OUR “DUES”.

PLEASE INCLUDE THE BEACH PROPERTY ADDRESS YOU ARE PAYING DUES FOR ON THE MEMO LINE OF YOUR CK AND YOUR CONTACT INFO (SUCH AS EMAIL ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBERS AND HOME ADDRESS) ON A SEPARATE PIECE OF PAPER.

PLEASE MAIL ANY PAST “DUES” AND CURRENT 2017 DUES OF $75.00 MADE OUT TO “FLEETON BEACH ASSOCIATION” AND SEND TO:

Cause of recent bottle nose dolphin deaths found

Dolphin strandingThis summer you may have seen the dolphin carcass that washed ashore on Fleeton beach. Officials believe that they have found the cause for mass dolphin fatalities that have been occurring u and down the mid-Atlantic seaboard.  National Marine Fisheries scientists say at least one of the stranded dolphins  appeared to have suffered from a measles-like “morbillivirus.”

Morbillivirus infections have been associated with previous large die-offs of dolphins and seals, but she cautioned that investigators were still evaluating the cause of this year’s strandings. Such outbreaks happen almost yearly along coastal regions; 60 have been  declared since 1991. But the acceleration of dolphin deaths in the past week, 35, merited increased concern in this case, marine scientists said.

“This is the highest number that we have had for this time of year since 1987,” said Susan Barco, research coordinator for the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center in Virginia Beach, Va. The 1987-88 outbreak saw the stranding deaths of more than 740 bottlenose dolphins from New Jersey to Florida, as well as deaths of humpback whales, as a catastrophe linked to morbillivirus and algae toxins. That year’s deaths triggered an outpouring of public concern about dolphins.

If you find a stranded or dead dolphin please do not touch the animal and call the Stranding Response 24-hour hotline at 757-385-7575

Volunteers needed for jetty repair August 24th

Jetty 2Just by looking at the public beach you can see how much of a difference jetties make in building up sand on the beach. The jetties have added almost 1/3 more beach in the short time since they were repaired.  We are calling on all Fleeton beach homeowners to help repair two jetties which protect the beach in front of the Turner and LaChance properties. These jetties are critical to protecting properties and also help to restore the public beach as well. Work will begin at 8am on August 24th. Food and refreshments will be provided by the Turners and volunteers from the Fleeton Beach HOA.

We will not be removing old timbers but we will be shoring up parts of the jetties that are in danger of failing. It is suggested that workers have gloves and wear jeans which will more than likely get wet. This is to protect you from rough lumber. Pumps and compressors will be in place and tested Friday afternoon to ensure we are ready to go Saturday morning.
